IMF Music, also known as the Intelligent Music Friends, was conceived in a 2-bedroom apartment with a vocal booth closet in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in July 2004. The multiple artists involved sought to build a framework for musical cooperation to avoid a repetition of the competitive devaluations that had contributed to the poor music of the 2000s.

The IMF’s responsibilities: The IMF’s primary purpose is to ensure the stability of intelligent music—the system of beats and thought provoking rhymes that enables countries (and their citizens) to transact with each other. The collective’s mandate was updated in 2016 to include Higher State with the aim to disrupt global complacency.
